A Champion for Michigan

There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation out there right now about the banking bill so we wanted to set the record straight. We strongly disagree with the claims that the Senate banking bill dismantles the Dodd-Frank law.

We should know because we are the “Dodd” and “Frank” in Dodd-Frank!

Key protections designed to prevent another financial crisis, like regulations on derivatives and risky mortgages, are still firmly in place. The bill helps credit unions and community banks that are in danger of vanishing in many Michigan communities. Frankly, these banks haven’t been the problem.

There’s also something else that we strongly disagree with: the misleading attacks on our friend, Senator Stabenow and her record. Take it from the authors of Dodd-Frank: Debbie Stabenow is a true champion for Michigan and for protecting the Dodd-Frank regulations that will prevent another financial crisis.

In the aftermath of the 2010 financial crisis we had one urgent goal: stopping the next financial crisis before it happens and Debbie worked with us to get that done. So far it’s worked, but it hasn’t been easy. From day one, powerful special interests have been trying to roll back our law. They would have succeeded if it weren’t for Debbie.

As the lead Democrat on the Senate Agriculture Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Debbie has stopped attacks and rollbacks of regulations on risky derivatives and swaps time and time again! And we are confident if the Republicans in the House try to weaken these regulations, Debbie will be a resounding NO on the final bill.

Debbie Stabenow gets it. She knows her job is fighting for what’s best for working people, not the special interests. And, she’s doing that every day!
