A Legacy of Service and Recognition

During Senator Debbie Stabenow’s public service, she has been deeply honored to receive numerous awards and acknowledgments from colleagues, institutions, organizations and communities across Michigan and the country. Each recognition reflects the meaningful progress she was able to achieve through true bipartisan collaboration with other leaders who share her values.

Among these honors, a few stand apart — permanent tributes that carry her name and reflect not just her career, but a commitment to future generations. They symbolize lasting partnerships, principled leadership, and a continued commitment to the public good.

The Deborah A. Stabenow State of Michigan Building

Named in recognition of a career dedicated to effective governance and constituent service on behalf of the residents of Michigan, the former Constitution Hall was dedicated in Senator Stabenow’s honor on May 7, 2025, by Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order.

The order states: “Throughout her career, Senator Stabenow demonstrated a rare ability to build bipartisan coalitions and enact lasting, transformative change. Her legacy is one of love for the people of Michigan, a fierce commitment to public service, and an unparalleled work ethic. Senator Stabenow leaves behind a state and a nation that are stronger, more resilient, and better positioned for the future. To memorialize her achievement and what it means to all Michiganders — and to remind us of the work that remains — this order extends honors similar to those bestowed on Richard H. Austin, Frank J. Kelly, John A. Hannah, Daisy Elliot, and Melvin Larsen, and other extraordinary public servants. The names we elevate express our values to the workers who enter those halls every day and to the public whom those workers serve.”

The six-story high-rise Deborah A. Stabenow Building is the largest office building in downtown Lansing at more than 500,000 square feet. It is home to the following State of Michigan Departments:

• Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE)

• Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD)

• Natural Resources (DNR)

• Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA)

• Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO)

• Technology, Management and Budget (MTMB)

Debbie Stabenow Park

A place for community gathering, reflection, and recreation, the Debbie Stabenow Park in Lansing, Michigan, was dedicated by Mayor Andy Schor on Oct. 3, 2024. The park, like Senator Stabenow’s work throughout her career, honors efforts to protect public lands and ensure access to green spaces for all. Located on S. Washington Avenue between W. Holmes Road and W. Mount Hope Avenue, it was founded in 1942 after the city bought the land from REO Motor Corporation.

Additionally, the park hosts Lansing-area artist Tea Brown’s “Michigan Women Walls of Fame” art installation, an Arts Council of Greater Lansing 2024 Arts Impact Project, that features Senator Stabenow’s portrait, among other influential women.

Other recent updates to the park include a restored pavilion, the Priority Health Fitness Court, an open-air wellness center with equipment for body weight exercises, and new playground equipment.

Debbie Stabenow Grove

Located in Lansing’s Debbie Stabenow Park, a grove of trees was planted on behalf of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby of Michigan to honor Senator Stabenow “With sincere appreciation for her climate advocacy and her tireless work to build a safe, sustainable future.” The grove was dedicated on May 17, 2025, with a ceremony attended by volunteers from across the state.

The city’s forester chose native tree species that will survive the changing climate, add to the beauty of the park, and provide cooling shade for park visitors for generations to come. The Lansing and Michigan State University chapters of CCL will help the Lansing Parks Department maintain the new trees.
